(NEW YORK) – Camp Kinder Ring and the Workers Circle are excited to announce that Camp Kinder Ring is moving forward as an independent nonprofit organization.

At the end of the nineteenth century, Eastern European Jewish immigrants in the United States faced many challenges. In 1900, a group of progressive-minded Jewish immigrants founded the Workers Circle to resource and empower their community to work cooperatively and address shared issues while honoring their Jewish culture and traditions. In 1927, to further its mission and with the specific intent of providing the children of their members a summer home away from home, the Workers Circle founded Camp Kinder Ring. For the past 96 summers, countless children have found joy and made lasting friendships at Camp Kinder Ring, engaged in fun-filled activities in a safe environment, and gained appreciation for their Jewish heritage and the impact that they, as individuals and as a camp community, can have in the world.

The values and mission of the Workers Circle remain critical to Jewish life in the United States. The Workers Circle offers unparalleled learning opportunities relating to Jewish and Yiddish culture and history and is at the forefront of many social justice initiatives. Camp Kinder Ring proudly stands as a leader in the world of Jewish overnight camping, recognized for providing campers with magical summers, and for its commitment to its mission to make the world a better place, starting right on the shores of Sylvan Lake in Hopewell Junction, NY. While the Workers Circle and Camp Kinder Ring remain intrinsically connected by their shared history and values, and while the Camp greatly respects its roots and the mission of the Workers Circle, the Camp will now operate as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit entity. Camp Kinder Ring is energized and excited to embark on this new phase and will always honor its time-honored traditions. And the Workers Circle will proudly continue to watch Camp Kinder Ring grow, and happily return to Camp each August with its annual Trip to Yiddishland retreat.

As each organization embarks on this new path, both the Workers Circle and Camp Kinder Ring look forward to continued growth and fulfilling their own missions. It is with excitement and anticipation for the future that both the Workers Circle and Camp Kinder Ring separate as corporate relatives, wishing each other continued success and longtime friendship as they each go from strength to strength.

About the Workers Circle

The Workers Circle is a national, secular, Jewish social justice organization founded by Eastern European immigrants who came to the United States fleeing autocracy and persecution, and seeking democratic freedoms and economic opportunities at the turn of the 20th century. That history drives our work for an inclusive democracy and human equality today. Our activism is rooted in 1,000 years of Yiddish culture and tradition. Through strategic social justice campaigns, vibrant Yiddish language classes, and interactive educational programs, we power a multi-generational community of activists that is building “a better and more beautiful world for all.” Learn more at www.circle.org.
